Skills for Care campaign celebrates registered managers

Throughout March, Skills for Care’s latest campaign will be putting the spotlight on registered managers in care.

Skills for Care are championing registered managers in care this MarchThe workforce development charity will focus on championing and celebrating registered managers, which they describe as “the heart of their organisations.”

The Championing Registered Managers campaign will run across their website, social media and other communication channels and will feature blogs and real-life insights on key topics from registered managers and other social care experts.

It will also highlight the support that Skills for Care has in place for registered managers, including a membership community, newsletters, local networks, regular webinars and a podcast.

Individuals from the sector can follow the campaign and join in the conversation using the hashtag #ChampioningRMs on social media.

Registered managers play a vital role in care

skills for care provides a range of support for registered managersIn 2022-23 there were around 25,000 registered managers in post across the adult social care sector.

Skills for Care are championing them because: “They play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of care for people drawing on support and in supporting their team to be happy and effective in their roles.”

They have launched the campaign because of how crucial registered managers are to the success of care teams and the effective running of care services.

They cite data which shows that care staff turnover rates are lower when an experienced registered manager is in post. They also show that care services with a stable registered manager in place tend to have higher Care Quality Commission (CQC) scores.

Registered managers need support with CQC assessments

To support and celebrate registered managers, the campaign aims to:

  • Acknowledge the importance of the role
  • Signpost to a wide range of support and resources available from Skills for Care
  • Provide tailored information on key issues which registered managers are dealing with right now

Skills for Care says that one of the key issues that registered managers are currently seeking help with is the changes recently made to the CQC’s assessment approach.

They provide a range of resources to help services deliver Good and Outstanding Care and exceed CQC requirements, with a specific guide aimed at the CQC’s new single assessment framework.

Support and resources ‘incredibly useful’ for registered managers

Registered Managers also want support with managing change and succession planning. This is because around a third of registered managers (32%) in the care sector will reach retirement age in the next 15 years.

This means that succession planning is vital if the care workforce is to be sustained for the future.

Skills for Care’s Director of Engagement, Georgina Turner, said:

“Registered managers really are at the heart of high-quality care. We know from our close connections across England with registered managers just how rewarding and complex their job can be, and that’s why we offer a wide range of support for registered managers across all elements of their role.

“We’re excited to launch this campaign focused on highlighting that vital role of registered managers and signposting to the support and information that we know many registered managers find incredibly useful in their roles.”
