Public Oliver McGowan Training Courses
First Response Training is at the forefront of providing essential training in alignment with the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Framework for Learning Disabilities and Autism. This framework, mandated by the Health and Care Act 2022, requires health and social care providers to ensure staff receive training in interacting appropriately with individuals with learning disabilities and/or autistic people.
Visit our online shop to book your space in one of our public courses.
The training, developed by Health Education England and Skills for Care, consists of two tiers. Tier 1 involves a 60-minute online webinar, while Tier 2 is a 6-hour classroom course. Both tiers are delivered by a trio of trainers, including a subject matter expert, an autistic person, and a person with a learning disability (Experts by Lived Experience).
Recognising the value of lived experience, First Response Training incorporates individuals with such experience in the training, as evidenced by positive evaluations. First Response Training organisation also offers Train the Trainer courses to upskill in-house trainers to become Subject Matter Experts, delivering Tier 1 and/or Tier 2 training alongside Experts by Lived Experience.
