Skills for Care focuses on developing everyday leadership

Skills for Care have launched a campaign aimed at developing and supporting everyday leadership in adult social care.

Skills for Care campaign promotes Everyday Leadership in careThe national workforce development charity is running its ‘Everyday leadership’ campaign throughout June and July to help leaders and managers in the sector identify what good leadership looks like.

The everyday leaders campaign also wants to promote the idea that leadership qualities and behaviours are not restricted to senior staff and managers. Skills for Care says that all care workers can demonstrate everyday acts of leadership, allyship and support, and that these are essential components of a well-led and successful care provider.

Explaining why strong leadership is so important for care services, they state:

“Great leadership doesn’t just shape how care is delivered; it shapes the culture around it. It creates environments where staff feel genuinely supported, valued and heard, enabling them to perform at their best and provide the highest quality support.”

They also highlight their latest ASC-WDS (adult social care workforce datasets) report, which shows that stable and effective leadership is a “critical factor” when it comes to staff retention and securing positive CQC ratings.

Identifying everyday leadership qualities

Everyday leadership qualities can be found in all care workersEveryday leadership can help ensure safe, effective and compassionate care services through sharing ideas, innovating, raising concerns about poor practice and guiding colleagues.

Care workers may demonstrate leadership qualities by using their own initiative to make decisions, supporting others and taking accountability for their own wellbeing and development.

Throughout June and July, Skills for Care will be highlighting the importance of everyday leadership by sharing valuable insights, resources and thought leadership pieces from care sector experts.
