Mandatory Learning Disability and Autism Training

As of 1st July 2022, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requires all health and social care providers to complete training on how to interact appropriately with people with learning disabilities and autistic people. This new legal requirement was introduced by the Health and Care Act 2022. You can find out more about mandatory Learning Disability and Autism training here.

We will soon see a replacement Code of Practice and training framework: Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training. In the meantime, staff must receive relevant training already available. The following courses are available now:

Level 2 Award in Learning Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder

Classroom or Webinar Training

 

We have combined two of our half-day courses into one full-day course to cover both Learning Disability and Autism. The one-day training includes our Level 2 Award in Learning Disability Awareness and our Level 2 Award in Autism Spectrum Disorder. This can be completed in person or online as a webinar.

Both the Level 2 Award in Learning Disability Awareness and the Level 2 Award in Autism Spectrum Disorder are available as individual half-day courses too.

Level 2 Award in Learning Disability Awareness
Learning objectives:

  • Explain what is meant by the term learning disability
  • Identify different levels of learning disabilities
  • Explain different communication strategies used by people with learning disabilities
  • Identify how work practices need to be adjusted in order to meet the needs of people with learning disabilities

Level 2 Award in Autism Spectrum Disorder
Learning objectives:

  • To explain Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • To explain how ASD affect the way a person communicates and relates to people around them
  • To explain the behaviours exhibited by some people with ASD
  • To explain methods of supporting a person with ASD

This eLearning course provides learners with an understanding of Learning Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder and the support they can offer those with Learning Disabilities or Autism. The course takes 30-45 minutes and can be completed in the learners' own time.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain what is meant by the terms Learning Disability and Autism
  • Identify different types and levels of Learning Disability and Autism
  • Explain how Learning Disabilities and Autism  affect the way a person communicates and relates to people around them
  • To explain behaviours exhibited by some people with Learning Disabilities and Autism
  • To explain methods of supporting a person with a Learning Disability or Autism
  • To understand legislation and safeguarding responsibilities
