SCRC appoints Nurse Consultant for In...

The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (SCRC) has appointed Margaret Tannanhill as the new Nurse Consultant for Infection Control.

Margaret, who previously acted as Lead Consultant Nurse Infection Control within Health Protection Scotland (HPS), has a wealth of experience in the control and prevention of infection across a range of NHS and non-NHS healthcare settings, both regionally and nationally. Margaret has worked with stakeholders such as the World Health Organization, and is currently involved in their Global Patient Safety Challenge Programme.

As part of the Care Commission team she will continue to work on a national level with key stakeholders and will assist care homes and early year’s sectors in following best practice guidelines. Again, Margaret’s experience stands her in good stead here as she has previously been an integral part of the development of standards and guidance for non-NHS care settings.

The Care Commission are working towards the development of an educational package regarding the presentation of infections in older people. This will support the development of Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) surveillance in residential care settings and will assist the involvement of early year’s services in the National Hand Hygiene Programme.

They are confident that Margaret will be invaluable in moving these projects forward and linking them directly with the national HAI Task Force Programme, which is being led by the Scottish government.

We can offer an Infection Control training course which meets Common Induction Standards and has links to NVQ and SVQ standards. Account Manager, Steph Watson, says: “Infection control is an important issue in the health and social care sector, especially with all the recent press coverage surrounding infection rates at primary care facilities.

"Our course is ideal for anyone working within the care environment to minimise the risk of future outbreaks. It is a popular course among our key client base.”
