New website launched to help social c...
UNISON and Community Care have joined together to launch a new website aimed at supporting social care professionals.
The website, named ‘The Workplace Zone’, will bring together content from both organisations and will include regular features and advice to help improve support for the 350,000 social care members of UNISON. Around 40,000 of these members are social workers.
Helga Pile, UNISON National Officer for social care and social work, explained: “The Workplace Zone brings together the best of Community Care and UNISON to help social care professionals in their job and to protect their rights at work. You can navigate these pages to find out the latest social care news and updates on what UNISON is doing all in one place.”
She added: “It’s great to be working with Community Care on this. We want to use this site to build on the joint campaigns we’ve been doing around the social work contract so we can be even more effective on speaking up on the issues that matter to you.”
The new site will also feature forums hosted by Community care’s CareSpace, and a new blog written by Simon, a UNISON social work representative and approved mental health professional. The blog will focus on helping UNISON members deal with the effects of the spending cuts, while Helga Pile hopes that the forums will allow UNISON, “to gain instant feedback on the issues of the day.”
UNISON members will also be able to access discounts for Community Care services including conferences and subscriptions.
First Response Training has worked with over 2,000 organisations within the social care sector, providing training in a wide range of subjects, from the mandatory training to more specialist courses.
Charlotte Potter, Head of Quality and Curriculum at First Response, says: “It is great that these two organisations are joining forces to give people within social care a voice, as well as guidance, support and help. These are difficult and uncertain times and the more help there is out there, the better.
“We aim to make things as easy as possible for social care organisations, including children’s services. Our knowledgeable advisors can talk you through your training options and devise a solution that best suits your requirements and your settings. Our training courses are carefully developed, monitored and reviewed to ensure that they meet national standards.
“Hopefully, with all the help that is available, the social care sector will not drown under recent developments but will continue to improve and invest in workforce training and development.”
