CQC threatens Leicestershire care hom...

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has reported that a Leicestershire care home is failing to meet 10 essential standards of quality and safety.

The regulator has informed Aberry House, which is owned by Magnum Care Limited, based in Leicester, that if they do not take swift action to improve they will face enforcement action.

The home provides residential accommodation to older people. It was visited by CQC Inspectors on 10th and 11th January this year and they reported that the service was failing to comply with the essential standards that all care homes must maintain. Aberry House and lead provider Magnum Care are now being closely monitored by the CQC to ensure the safety of people who use the services, the care workers and the general public.

Four main areas of concern have been highlighted by the CQC. They say that the home is failing to comply with the standard that states that people should be cared for in a clean environment and protected from the risk of infection. They also report that residents are not always cared for in safe premises are not fully protected due to a lack of staff training.

CQC Regional Director Andrea Gordon said: “We have been pressing Magnum Care to improve the care offered at Aberry House, but standards of care are still not good enough. We will monitor them closely and won’t hesitate to use our enforcement powers to ensure the safety of people who use these services if we need to.”

irst Response Training can offer a wide range of training for the health and social care sector. They provide training in a variety of formats, including practical direct provision, distance, blended and e-learning options, and in all of the core training subjects which must be completed as part of the Skills for Care Common Induction Standards and CQC requirements. They also offer special focus training courses and flexible, tailored staff induction packages mapped to the refreshed Common Induction Standards 2010.

Perry Leeks, Managing Director at First Response, says: “Good quality training is at the heart of good quality care services. If providers offer regular, relevant training and opportunities for further professional development they are more likely to be able to recruit and retain top quality carers. Well trained carers are also more likely to offer the best and safest care to service users and, with these factors in place, providers are likely to be much more able to meet the essential standards of quality and safety.

“We can offer courses in Infection Control, Essentials of Health and Safety, Emergency First Aid at Work, Moving and Handling of People, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and many, many more subjects.
