Community Care launch Social Worker o...
The annual social care exhibition, Community Care Live, saw the launch of the revamped Social Worker of the Year Awards.
The awards aim to recognise and celebrate the work and achievements of social work practitioners throughout the UK. The deadline for entries is 22nd July.
The awards, which were originally established by independent social work practitioner Beverley Williams in 2006, have grown in both size and status thanks to the combined efforts of a number of sector leaders. Bronagh Miskelly, Group Editor of Community Care, James Rook, the Managing Director of Sanctuary Personnel, and Hilton Dawson, Chief Executive of BASW (the College of Social Work) have formed the new Social Work Awards Society, which has overhauled the awards for 2011.
They will feature 12 categories in order to recognise individual social workers, teams and departments covering both children and adult’s services. The new Society hopes to improve public understanding of the range of challenging work which social workers carry out, promote best practice and celebrate success. They also aim to support diversity and equal opportunities in social care.
The awards, to be held in November, will be chaired by Martin Narey, who retired as the Chief Executive of Barnardo’s earlier this year. Commenting on the refreshed awards, he said: “I hope they will demonstrate to the public the immense worth of social work.”
First Response Training provides a wide range of training courses for those who work with children and young people. They deliver paediatric training to around 1,500 different clients in the children’s social care and young people’s workforce every year and hold long-standing contracts with local authority early years’ departments.
The paediatric training courses offered by First Response are mapped to the criteria set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where applicable, and are developed in line with Ofsted requirements. Courses include: Child Protection Training; Manual Handling for Child Carers; Health and Safety for Child Carers; Epilepsy Awareness; and Paediatric First Aid, both basic and advanced.
Perry Leeks, Managing Director at First Response, says: “We work with schools, nurseries, childcare agencies, children’s activity centres and local authorities to help maximise their staff training and development, always working to their budget. Our range of innovative delivery methods help to reduce costs without risking quality and safety standards.
“A properly trained and highly skilled workforce will deliver the best quality care and protection, leading to the best possible outcomes for children. It is important that training and development is always on the agenda for children’s social care and early years practitioners.”
